The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) is one of the 8 accredited universities in Norway, which was established in 2005. The Norwegian University of Life Sciences will be an internationally renowned and innovative university for life sciences, environment and sustainable development.
There is a strong link between research and the UMB study programs; students at the Master and PhD level are often involved in many research activities. Research is also a joint venture between research institutes in As. Together, the university and the institutions represent the largest research environments for life sciences in Norway. UMB is also active through national alliances with other institutions and through institutional partnerships with universities in developing countries. UMB’s health-related research is linked to healthy food, clean water and the environment and the many related challenges in developing countries
UMB has exchange agreements with more than 80 universities worldwide, including six Nordic, 44 European and eight North American institutions. The objectives of UMB’s cooperation with universities abroad include building strong academic networks, facilitating international exchange and contributing to the competence building with universities in the south.

Dr Zakhar Maletskyi is a member of Water, Environment, Sanitation and Health (WESH) research group at the Faculty of Science & Technology (REALTEK) since 2015 as postdoctoral fellow in Water & Wastewater Treatment with major in Membrane Processes.
Dr Maletskyi’s research interests are within fields of Membrane, Adsorption and Ion Exchange technologies for water and wastewater treatment.
Currently Dr Maletskyi is involved into research projects with focus on chemical methods of fouling control in MBR and foulants characterization, combined adsorption-membrane technologies for NOM removal, processing and utilization of waste water sludge.
Dr Maletskyi teaches membrane filtration subjects in THT272 – Treatment of Water and Sewage and THT311 – Water Resources Management and Treatment Technologies courses.
As a certified Project Management Professional (PMP, Project Management Institute), Zakhar Maletskyi is involved as coordinating secretary into international research and educational projects: Water Harmony Eurasia (SIU), Water Harmony ERASMUS + and International Partnership on Membrane Processes for Research and Educational Excellence – MEMPREX (RCN). Zakhar Maletskyi is a contributing member in Water, Society and Climate Change – WaSo Africa & Asia projects (NORHED / Norad).
